Emergency Alert Test

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Jericho Elementary School, as well as the other schools of Chittenden East, is replacing its old emergency notification system with Schoolmessenger as of November 18th.

We will test the new emergency notification system on Wednesday, November 18th, at 6:00PMThe system informs you of urgent information such as school closures, delays or emergencies.

You may have received a test two weeks ago from the old system. We apologize for any inconvenience that a second test may cause.  The new system was not available to us in August, and we had to keep the old and tested system in place until now.

Phone calls, emails and/or text messages will be sent you.  Posts will be made to the school's website, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Note: If you requested text messaging, you will receive a text message from Schoolmessenger or Chittenden East on Tuesday, November 17th asking you to accept future text messages.  You must accept that request in order to receive future text messages.

If do not wish to be in the system, please contact us at 802-899-2272.

Cardboard Challenge Info

Cardboard Challenge Update and Materials Request
We are in great shape for the event on Tuesday September 29th, but we are still in need of a few supplies.  In the Enrichment Room we could use more small, assembled boxes- shoe box size or a bit larger.  We could use more MASKING TAPE and  HOT GLUE GUN STICKS (either size).  These things can be delivered directly to the Enrichment Room in the grade 3 hallway.

To add to creations we could also use cereal box type cardboard, heavy paper, toilet paper type rolls etc. for your child’s classroom.  They can bring these additional supplies directly to their classrooms.

I will be mass emailing volunteers to confirm their role in the event.  Separate emails will go to the different groups.

This is shaping up to be a fantastic school-wide event.  Students are abuzz with creative ideas.  We have over 40 parent volunteers signed up. See you soon,

Dave Bouchard

PE News

Vermont adopts national physical education standards!

Over the last few days physical education has been in the local news as Vermont adopts national standards for physical education in order to align with common core and new grade level expectations.

I would like our JES families to know that I support the move, our school and curriculum is standards based and aligned with the new national standards. Jericho has a voice at the state level in physical education as I have sat on the executive board and have been an officer of the Vermont PE and Health Teachers association known as VTAHPERD, since 2009.

For more information regarding the new standards please visit

Best Regards,
Mr Steinman
